About the Role

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Nonprofit
Salary range: $120,000 – $135,000
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Financial Officer to join a mission‑driven, growing nonprofit organization. This role partners closely with executive leadership and the board to guide financial strategy, ensure fiscal sustainability, and support programmatic growth.

Key Responsibilities of the CFO:
  • Provide overall financial leadership and strategic guidance to executive leadership and the board
  • Oversee all accounting and finance operations, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and month‑end close
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and grant guidelines
  • Lead treasury functions, including cash flow management, forecasting, and investment strategies
  • Direct the annual budgeting process and long‑term financial planning; monitor performance against budget
  • Provide financial analysis, forecasts, and insights to support organizational decision‑making
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting and finance team
  • Oversee annual audits, tax filings, and external audit relationships
  • Manage nonprofit contracts and funding relationships with government agencies
  • Support financial operations related to social service programs, including Medi‑Cal billing, behavioral health, family services, and case management
Qualifications of the CFO:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibility
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit financial management, audits, and compliance
  • Experience with treasury management, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning
  • Experience working with social service agencies and publicly funded programs
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office
Skills Preferred of the CFO:
  • Strong executive leadership and team development skills
  • Excellent analytical, strategic, and problem‑solving abilities
  • Effective communicator and collaborative leader
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment
