Sr. Radar Systems Engineer

Enterprise Services Network Waretown, New Jersey, US

About the Role

Lockheed Martin is seeking a Sr. Radar Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, and sustainment of advanced radar solutions that support critical Defense & Aerospace missions. As part of our Engineering & Design organization, you will shape next-generation radar architectures and contribute to systems that provide our customers with decisive situational awareness and mission advantage. In this senior technical role, you will apply deep expertise in RF engineering, signal processing, and systems engineering to define radar system concepts, develop performance models, and guide designs from early concept and requirements definition through integration, test, and deployment.
You will be responsible for translating mission needs and operational concepts into radar system requirements, decomposing those requirements into subsystem specifications, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams across hardware, software, firmware, and integration disciplines. You will lead trade studies and analyses to optimize radar performance, cost, size, weight, and power, and you will evaluate and refine radar waveforms, signal processing algorithms, and tracking approaches to meet demanding detection, tracking, and classification objectives. Using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Python, and C/C++, you will create high-fidelity models and simulations to predict performance across complex environments and to drive design decisions.
This position offers the opportunity to serve as a technical authority and system architect, providing guidance on radar concepts such as beamforming, pulse compression, target detection, clutter mitigation, MIMO techniques, and advanced tracking and sensor fusion. You will support the development and integration of radar systems with other sensors and platforms, ensuring robust interfaces and end-to-end system interoperability. You will also play a key role in verification and validation, supporting lab-based hardware-in-the-loop testing, flight or field tests, data analysis, and performance assessment against system requirements.
As a Sr. Radar Systems Engineer, you will collaborate closely with program management, customers, and internal stakeholders to present technical approaches, defend trade decisions, and communicate system performance. You will contribute to proposals, cost and schedule estimates, and risk management activities, helping to shape new business and technology roadmaps in radar and sensing. You will mentor early-career engineers, promote best practices in systems engineering and radar design, and help foster a culture of technical rigor, creativity, and collaboration.
Lockheed Martin focuses on the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products, and services, and places strong emphasis on ethical standards, inclusivity, and teamwork. In this role, you will be part of a culture that values integrity, innovation, and mission focus. You will work in a hybrid environment that combines on-site lab and integration activities with remote analysis and design work, engaging with diverse teams of experts across RF, digital design, software, and systems engineering. The company offers comprehensive benefits, professional development opportunities, and a wide range of career paths in engineering, technology, and business, allowing you to grow your career while contributing directly to the success of critical national security and aerospace programs.
The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in radar systems engineering, including requirements development, system modeling, algorithm development, and integration and test. A strong foundation in electrical engineering, physics, or a related discipline, along with a graduate degree and experience in Defense & Aerospace or related domains, will be important for success. You should be comfortable leading technical teams, working across organizational boundaries, and operating in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment where innovation, quality, and collaboration are paramount.
