Sr. Radar Systems Engineer
Enterprise Services Network
Plainsboro, New Jersey, US
About the Role
Lockheed Martin is seeking a Sr. Radar Systems Engineer to join our Engineering & Design team in the Defense & Aerospace industry, where you will help define and deliver the next generation of advanced radar capabilities that support critical missions worldwide. In this role, you will lead the end-to-end systems engineering of sophisticated radar systems, from concept development and requirements definition through architecture, design, modeling and simulation, integration, test, and sustainment. You will apply deep expertise in RF engineering, signal processing, sensor systems, and system-of-systems integration to create robust, mission-focused radar solutions.
As a senior technical contributor, you will collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams across hardware, software, algorithms, and systems engineering, translating complex customer needs into clear technical requirements and system architectures. You will develop and analyze radar concepts of operation, design and evaluate waveforms and signal processing chains, perform modeling and simulation of radar performance in realistic operational environments, and support algorithm development for detection, tracking, and target classification. You will help plan and execute lab and field tests, analyze data to verify performance against requirements, and drive design updates to optimize capability, reliability, and affordability.
You will mentor junior engineers, provide technical leadership on program teams, support design reviews and technical interchange meetings with customers, and contribute to new business and proposal efforts by defining system approaches, estimating effort, and presenting innovative solutions. Your work will involve close coordination with other Lockheed Martin engineering disciplines and program management, emphasizing strong communication, documentation, and configuration control practices.
This position requires a strong foundation in radar systems or closely related RF/sensor domains, including experience with phased-array or AESA radar, digital signal processing, and systems engineering processes. Proficiency with tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and modern programming languages (e.g., Python or C/C++) is expected, as is familiarity with requirements management tools like DOORS and standard aerospace and defense development practices. Experience with military standards, environmental and EMI/EMC considerations, and security and export control requirements is highly desirable.
At Lockheed Martin, you will be part of a culture of integrity, innovation, inclusivity, and teamwork, working alongside experts who are passionate about mission success. The company focuses on research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, and offers broad opportunities for career growth in engineering, technology, and related disciplines. As a Sr. Radar Systems Engineer, you will have the opportunity to influence technical direction on complex programs, engage in cutting-edge technology development, and support critical national and international defense missions in a collaborative, high-performance environment.
The role typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related field, along with substantial experience in radar or advanced sensor systems, and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance. In return, Lockheed Martin offers competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and a flexible, mission-focused work environment that supports both professional development and work-life balance.
