Sr. Radar Systems Engineer
Enterprise Services Network
Swedesboro, New Jersey, US
About the Role
As a Sr. Radar Systems Engineer at Lockheed Martin within the Engineering & Design organization, you will play a key technical role in the development and sustainment of advanced radar systems that support critical defense and aerospace missions. You will lead the end-to-end systems engineering lifecycle for radar sensors and subsystems, from early concept development and requirements definition through architecture design, modeling and simulation, integration and test, and field support. Drawing on deep expertise in RF engineering, signal processing, and system-level performance analysis, you will help define system concepts, allocate requirements across hardware and software components, and ensure that radar performance meets stringent mission, environmental, and regulatory needs.
In this role, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of electrical, software, mechanical, and integration engineers to design, analyze, and optimize radar modes, waveforms, and processing algorithms for detection, tracking, imaging, and situational awareness. You will develop and maintain system and subsystem requirements, interface control documents, and verification plans, using model-based systems engineering practices, modern simulation tools such as MATLAB and Simulink, and established aerospace and defense standards. You will lead trade studies and performance assessments, evaluate design options, and present technical findings and recommendations to internal leadership, program management, and customer stakeholders.
You will be responsible for planning and executing laboratory and field tests, including integration of radar hardware and software, troubleshooting complex system issues, and performing root cause analyses to resolve anomalies. You will help define test configurations, data collection strategies, and analysis methodologies to validate system performance against requirements. Your work may include contributions to electronic protection and counter-countermeasure techniques, sensor fusion concepts, and interfaces with other mission systems. You will produce clear technical documentation, contribute to design reviews, and mentor junior engineers in radar fundamentals, systems engineering rigor, and best practices.
Lockheed Martin focuses on the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products, and services, and this role sits at the heart of that mission. You will join a culture that values integrity, innovation, and inclusivity, where teamwork and mission focus are central to daily work. As a Sr. Radar Systems Engineer, you will have opportunities to grow into technical leadership roles, shape next-generation radar architectures, and influence technology roadmaps for future defense and aerospace platforms.
The position typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline, with substantial experience in radar systems, RF or microwave design, or signal processing for sensing applications. Prior experience in the defense or aerospace industry, familiarity with DoD or MIL-STD environments, and eligibility for a U.S. security clearance are expected. The role is best suited for engineers who are comfortable working in a hybrid environment, splitting time between office, laboratory, and, when required, test ranges or field sites, while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and program stakeholders.
Lockheed Martin, as a leading aerospace and defense company, offers a wide range of career opportunities in engineering, technology, and business, along with competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement savings plans, and opportunities for professional development. In this position, you will contribute directly to systems that support national security and international partners, while working in an environment that encourages continuous learning, ethical conduct, and diverse perspectives.
