Payroll Specialist
About the Role
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for supporting accurate and timely weekly payroll processing for a multi-state, high-volume workforce. The Payroll Specialist assists with payroll administration, certified payroll reporting, and prevailing wage compliance while ensuring accuracy, data integrity, and adherence to federal, state, and company policies. The Payroll Specialist works closely with accounting and operations teams to support timecard processing, reporting, reconciliation, and general payroll administration.
This Payroll Specialist role is ideal for someone with 1–2 years of administrative, HR, or accounting support experience who is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to grow in payroll and compliance.
Salary Range: $58,000 – $64,000 annually (DOE)
Key Responsibilities- Support weekly payroll processing by collecting, reviewing, and entering timecard data while ensuring accuracy and completeness across multiple systems.
- Assist with payroll calculations, including wages, overtime, benefits, and prevailing wage classifications.
- Support certified payroll reporting, including preparation, submission, corrections, and compliance with federal and state requirements.
- Maintain employee classifications such as craft, union, and apprentice roles while ensuring proper coding of labor hours.
- Assist with payroll reconciliation, reporting, audit support, and year-end processing in coordination with accounting.
- Utilize payroll systems such as Paylocity and Viewpoint (preferred) to support processing, reporting, and data management.
- Respond to payroll inquiries, support documentation requests, and contribute to ongoing process improvements and general administrative support tasks.
- 1–2 years of administrative, HR, accounting, or payroll support experience
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Basic Excel skills and comfort working with data
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn payroll processes
- Exposure to payroll, construction, union, or certified payroll environments is a plus
- Experience with Paylocity or similar payroll systems preferred
- Interest in payroll compliance, accounting, or HR operations
