About the Role
RWJBarnabas Health is seeking aNeurocritical Care Attendingto join our growing Neurology team at Community Medical Center. This is an exciting opportunity to practice in a collaborative, high-acuity environment within New Jersey's largest integrated healthcare system, while contributing to the continued advancement of stroke and neurocritical care services.
This role offers a unique consultative model within the ICU, allowing the Neurocritical Care Attending to provide specialized expertise for complex neurological and neurosurgical cases while working alongside multidisciplinary teams. The position also includes a structured week-on/week-off schedule supporting both on-site care and telestroke services across multiple RWJBarnabas Health facilities.
Position Overview
The Neurocritical Care Attending will provide full-time clinical and administrative services, delivering expert consultation for critically ill patients with neurological conditions. This role supports a consult-only ICU model, where the ICU team remains primary, and neurocritical care expertise is provided through daily rounding and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Provide neurocritical care consultation for ICU patients with acute neurological and neurosurgical conditions, including:
Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), large vessel occlusion (LVO)Post-operative neurosurgical cases, cerebral edema, seizures, and other neurological emergenciesParticipate in ICU rounds, physician collaboration, and family discussionsDeliver ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) management supportProvide26 weeks of annual coveragein a structured week-on/week-off model:
Daily schedule: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (on-site)Overnight coverage: 5:00 PM - 8:00 AM (unrestricted, including telestroke responsibilities)24/7 tele-evaluation availability for stroke patients across northern RWJBarnabas Health sitesEducate residents and colleagues in neurocritical careParticipate in multidisciplinary quality, safety, and stroke program initiativesContribute to the development of treatment protocols and evidence-based care pathwaysSupport and advance Joint Commission Stroke Center certification effortsParticipate in the Stroke Advisory Committee and required CME activitiesEngage in IRB-approved research and patient recruitment initiativesCandidate Requirements
Board Certified or Board Eligible in NeurologyFellowship training in Neurocritical Care preferredEligible for New Jersey medical licensureStrong clinical, communication, and collaborative skillsCommitment to academic medicine, education, and quality improvementCompensation & Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey is$300,000 - $450,000 per year . The compensation offered will depend on several factors, including educational background, skills, and professional experience.
