About the Role

Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking an MRI Technologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will perform high‑quality MRI examinations for patients of all ages in a compassionate, patient‑centered environment. Working closely with radiologists, nurses, and other clinical staff, you will prepare patients for MRI procedures, verify medical histories and screening forms, and position patients to obtain diagnostic images while ensuring comfort, dignity, and safety throughout the exam.
The MRI Technologist operates and adjusts MRI equipment, selects appropriate imaging protocols, and evaluates images for diagnostic quality, following departmental standards and physician requests. You will adhere to strict MRI safety practices, including screening patients, visitors, and staff for contraindications, properly handling ferromagnetic items, and responding appropriately to emergencies within the MRI suite. Accurate documentation in the electronic health record, proper use of PACS, and timely communication of exam-related information to radiologists and care teams are integral to this position.
The role also includes starting IVs and administering contrast agents per protocol, monitoring patients for adverse reactions, and following all infection prevention and medication safety guidelines. You will assist with scheduling, patient flow, exam prioritization, and coordination with other departments to minimize wait times and support efficient operations.
