Grounds Maintenance Worker

Job Description

You are required to work at your assigned work location during your scheduled work times. Please note: Work arrangements are subject to change at any time.

This position exists to support the continued operation of the physical plant to include irrigation systems maintenance and repair, Maxicom system maintenance, and roads and asphalt maintenance and repair. This position also exists to provide care of lawns, shrubs, flowers, and trees within the guidelines of all regulatory state and federal requirements. Also, provides assistance to other area departments, i.e., demolition crew, underground services such as steam lines, electric lines, water and sewer lines by digging, shoring, insulating, backfilling and compacting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must have one year of large-scale landscaping, grounds maintenance and irrigation experience in environments such as parks, golf courses, schools, campuses, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and maintaining large landscaping projects

Conditions of Employment

  • A full pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges.
  • Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
  • This position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application and residency within the state throughout the duration of employment in this position.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid non-restricted Colorado driver's license. Out-of-State Driver's License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver's License within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Must successfully pass Motor Vehicle Checks
  • Travel This position will be required to drive State Vehicles as part of daily work assignment from site to site equipped with tools to perform daily duties. May be required to travel to training and meetings.
  • Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.
  • Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials Proximity to moving, mechanical parts. Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Exposure to electrical shock and working in highly exposed places.
  • Must be available for call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay and/or without interruption.
  • Must be available for shift work. Will be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours due to weather such as snow removal, emergencies, etc.
  • EXPOSURE TO WEATHER - Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather. Must be willing and able to work in these conditions.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.

CDHS Selection Process Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hours per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications. If listed, answer all supplemental questions as your answers to these questions will be evaluated during this phase. Provide at least 4-8 sentences for each supplemental question.
