Assistant Controller

Salary: Up to $100,000 + Bonus
Location: White Marsh, MD

A fast‑expanding, purpose‑driven organization within the education and services space is hiring an Assistant Controller to support its growing corporate accounting function. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in overseeing daily accounting activities, refining financial processes, and supporting accurate reporting across multiple entities and locations. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys balancing hands‑on accounting work with team leadership and process enhancement.

In the Assistant Controller role, you will be responsible for:

• Leading month‑end and year‑end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting
• Supervising accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, and cash flow processes
• Preparing financial statements, trend and variance analyses, and reports for senior leadership
• Partnering with operations, HR, and other internal teams to ensure consistent and efficient financial practices
• Strengthening internal controls and supporting scalable accounting procedures
• Assisting with audits, budgeting, forecasting, and system or workflow improvements
• Coaching and supporting accounting team members as a resource and mentor

The ideal Assistant Controller candidate will bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• Yardi experience is required (no exceptions)
• 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a senior or lead capacity
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and multi‑entity accounting environments
• Background in service‑oriented, multi‑site, franchise, real estate, childcare, or similar industries preferred
• Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities
