SLP Qualifications & Requirements
- Active Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) certification or state licensure
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a hospital or acute care setting (acute care SLP experience required)
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Commitment to patient-centered care and evidence-based practice
- ASHA CCC-SLP or equivalent certification/license preferred
Clinical Responsibilities — Hospital SLP (Acute Care)
- Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders (including dysphagia management and bedside swallowing evaluations)
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and discharge recommendations
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, dietitians, and other allied health professionals
- Perform instrumented and non-instrumented swallowing assessments when indicated and coordinate referrals
- Document patient progress, clinical findings, and plan of care in the electronic medical record per hospital policy
- Provide patient and family education on therapy techniques and strategies for continued improvement
