SLP Qualifications & Requirements

  • Active Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) certification or state licensure
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a hospital or acute care setting (acute care SLP experience required)
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and evidence-based practice
  • ASHA CCC-SLP or equivalent certification/license preferred

Clinical Responsibilities — Hospital SLP (Acute Care)

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders (including dysphagia management and bedside swallowing evaluations)
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and discharge recommendations
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, dietitians, and other allied health professionals
  • Perform instrumented and non-instrumented swallowing assessments when indicated and coordinate referrals
  • Document patient progress, clinical findings, and plan of care in the electronic medical record per hospital policy
  • Provide patient and family education on therapy techniques and strategies for continued improvement
