Staff Rn (full-time)

UCHealth Denver, Colorado, US

About the Role

UCHealth is seeking a compassionate and experienced Charge Nurse for our Labor & Delivery unit on the night shift. This is an opportunity to join a Colorado-based, nonprofit health care system dedicated to patient-centered care, innovation, and continuous improvement. As a Charge Nurse in Labor & Delivery, you will play a key leadership role at the bedside, coordinating high-quality care for mothers and newborns while supporting and guiding the clinical team throughout the night. In this role, you will oversee the delivery of nursing care for patients in active labor, antepartum, postpartum, and high-risk obstetric situations. You will be responsible for patient flow on the unit, including bed management, staff assignments, and prioritization of care in a fast-paced environment. You will collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to ensure safe, evidence-based, and family-centered care. The Charge Nurse will serve as a clinical resource to staff, assist with complex or high-acuity patients, and help facilitate timely interventions during obstetric emergencies such as postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia/eclampsia, and non-reassuring fetal heart tones. The Charge Nurse L&D Nights will provide direct patient care as needed, including comprehensive maternal and fetal assessments, continuous electronic fetal monitoring and interpretation, medication administration and titration (including oxytocin and magnesium sulfate), IV therapy, and support for vaginal and cesarean births. You will also play a central role in patient and family education, helping families understand the labor process, pain management options, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care. Leadership responsibilities include mentoring and coaching bedside nurses, technicians, and support staff; and fostering a culture of respect, teamwork, and inclusion. You will help orient new team members, support ongoing competency development, and encourage the use of best practices and evidence-based guidelines in labor and delivery care. As a representative of UCHealth’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, you will champion patient-centered, culturally sensitive care and ensure that each patient and family feels heard, respected, and supported. UCHealth offers competitive benefits, including comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance options, and retirement plans such as a 401k with employer contributions. You will have access to ongoing training, education, and certification support to enhance your professional development. Our environment emphasizes continuous improvement, quality outcomes, and innovation in maternal and neonatal care, providing opportunities for Charge Nurses to participate in quality projects, safety initiatives, and shared governance activities. The ideal candidate is an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse with demonstrated charge or team lead experience on a high-acuity obstetric unit. A strong foundation in fetal monitoring, neonatal resuscitation, and obstetric emergency management is required. Candidates should be comfortable working night shifts, managing competing priorities, and supporting a multidisciplinary team. This position is primarily on-site in the hospital environment, with frequent collaboration across departments such as the operating room, postpartum, NICU, and emergency services. If you are a dedicated L&D RN who thrives in a fast-paced setting, values collaboration and clinical excellence, and is looking for a leadership role with meaningful impact on patients and staff, UCHealth invites you to apply for the Charge Nurse L&D Nights position and grow your career with a mission-driven, supportive organization.
