Sr Systems Engineer Radar System Design

Enterprise Services Network Mount Holly, New Jersey, US

About the Role

Lockheed Martin is seeking a Sr Systems Engineer focused on Radar System Design to join our Engineering & Design organization within the Defense & Aerospace industry. In this role, you will serve as a technical leader in the design, development, integration, and verification of advanced radar systems that support critical missions for our customers. You will work across the full systems engineering lifecycle, from concept development and requirements definition through architecture, detailed design, implementation, and system-level test and evaluation.

As a senior radar systems engineer, you will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including RF engineers, signal processing specialists, software and hardware engineers, and program management to define system requirements and translate mission needs into robust radar architectures. You will lead trade studies to optimize radar performance, cost, size, weight, and power, and you will develop and analyze radar concepts using modeling, simulation, and algorithm prototyping tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or Python-based environments. Your work will include the design and evaluation of radar waveforms, signal processing chains, target detection and tracking algorithms, and resource management strategies.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining system-level requirements, interface definitions, and technical documentation, leveraging tools such as DOORS or similar requirements management systems. You will contribute to and often lead technical reviews, presenting analyses, design decisions, and test results to internal stakeholders and customers. As systems are integrated, you will support hardware-in-the-loop testing, laboratory and field tests, and data analysis to verify that radar performance meets specifications and mission needs, driving root-cause analysis and corrective actions when issues arise.

This position requires solid experience in radar and RF principles, digital signal processing, and systems engineering best practices, along with the ability to decompose complex problems and communicate clearly across disciplines. You will mentor junior engineers, help shape technical roadmaps, and contribute to proposals and new business pursuits by defining technical approaches and estimating effort for future radar programs.

At Lockheed Martin, you will be part of a culture that prioritizes integrity, innovation, inclusivity, and teamwork. You will join a mission-focused environment where your technical contributions directly support national security and advanced aerospace capabilities. In addition to meaningful work, you will have access to a wide range of career opportunities in engineering and technology, with support for professional development, advanced education, and technical leadership growth.

This role typically requires at least several years of hands-on experience in radar systems engineering or closely related RF/sensor systems, and a bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field. An active or obtainable U.S. DoD security clearance is often required for work on classified programs. Lockheed Martin offers competitive compensation, comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement benefits (including 401k), as well as flexible, hybrid work arrangements that balance on-site laboratory and integration activities with remote analysis and design work.
