Senior Network Security Engineer
About the Role
Job Description The Senior Network Security Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee, WI will be responsible for firewall design and implementation, platform maintenance, and support of NextGen Firewall technologies. Act as Tier 3 escalation for Tier 2 and Tier 1 network security problems and incidents and troubleshoot as needed. Respond to IT service management internal event management alerts and resolve major incidents. Utilize network traffic metrics to identify problems and avoid production network impact. Manage and maintain security tools and infrastructure that supports network security. Focus on designing and implementing automation to create efficiencies. Utilize Network Security Appliances and Applications, Site‑To‑Site VPN, Client VPN, Encryption/Decryption methods, Content Filtering and Network Access Policies. Address security issues using knowledge of attack methods and countermeasures. Utilize networking concepts including DNS, IP, NAT, VLANs, subnetting, and OSI Model. Practice cryptography controls and underlying concepts to secure data. Participate and practice Agile methodologies. Guide and mentor junior team members. Utilize web and network protocols including TCP, UDP, and HTTP/S. Recommend process efficiencies to reduce resolution time. Telecommuting permitted 2 days per week. Salary $123,365–$193,310 per year. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, plus 5 years of experience as a security engineer, systems engineer, or in a related occupation. Experience must include 4 years with each of the following: (1) Network Security Appliances and Applications, Site‑To‑Site VPN, Client VPN, Encryption/Decryption methods, Content Filtering and Network Access Policies; (2) attack methods and countermeasures; (3) security logs including firewalls, proxies, and active directory; (4) networking concepts including DNS, IP, NAT, VLANs, subnetting, and OSI Model; (5) cryptography controls and underlying concepts to secure data; and (6) web and network protocols including TCP, UDP, and HTTP/S.
