About the Role
divh2Zoo Security Guard/h2pEnsure safety and security by patrolling zoo grounds, monitoring in person and cameras, and responding to emergencies, including first aid, and CPR. Guards also maintain access control, escort vendors and contractors, and prepare regular and detailed reports./ph3Duties Responsibilities/h3ulliControl access to buildings and premises, including physical barriers, keys, locks, clickers, staff identification, and visitor logs/liliEnforce rules and regulations of the zoos; inform guests and employees, answers questions, eject trespassers and escort visitors such as vendors, inspectors, and contractors while being helpful and composed/liliMonitor surveillance systems; alarms cameras, crowds and access points/liliPatrol buildings and grounds regularly to maintain order and establish presence/liliInspect perimeter fences and gates, doors, and guest barriers to detect breaches; investigate suspicious activities, incidents and other alarming behavior/liliRespond to complaints, incidents and emergencies; act as first responder with first aid, CPR, and use of AED; contact and interface with outside agencies such as police and fire departments/liliProtect people, assets, and the organization from threats, criminal incidents and safety and security breaches/liliMaintain accurate and detailed records; report observations, information, occurrences, incidents and surveillance activities to supervisors regularly, and timely./li/ulh3Physical Demands/h3ulliConstantly stands, and moves about on foot from one area to another; occasional runs for emergency response/liliFrequently raises/lowers, transports, and positions objects (including, but not limited to First Aid bags, packages, etc.) weighing up to 50 pounds from vehicle to ground, from ground to vehicle or storage shelves; grasping with hands and arms, to maintain supplies/liliFrequently reaches, pushes, pulls and throws objects with hands such as to open and close doors/gates, and deliver parcels/liliFrequently uses good balance to climb, ascend/descend stairs and ladders, traverse uneven or slippery terrain to make patrol grounds/liliFrequently stoops, kneels, or crouches to work, such as to inspect barriers/liliFrequently converses with guests, co-workers and contractors to exchange accurate information for safety and security purposes. Must be able to inspect, detect and identify safety issues using hearing (radio)/liliFrequently inspects, detects and identifies product safety issues using sight (including color identification, and smell (to detect smoke, gas, etc.)/li/ulh3Work Conditions/h3ulliOccasionally in an indoor office setting using computer, printer, copier, and other office equipment; Frequently in an outdoor setting including high/low temperatures and extreme weather/liliMay be assigned to work at either Franklin Park or Stone Zoo sites/liliAbility to work flexible hours, including overnight, weekends, and holidays./li/ulh3Minimum Job Requirements/h3ulliHigh School diploma or GED/liliValid drivers license and driving record in good standing./liliBasic computer skills/liliClean criminal record/liliCustomer service skills and emotional intelligence, helpful, trustworthy and reliable./liliCommunication and listening skills, able to diffuse situations before they escalate; observant, with good attention to detail/liliAble to work and communicate with a diverse population; fight unconscious bias, stereotypes and microaggressions/liliCapable of making sound judgments./liliAble to follow directions both written and verbal./liliAlways remain alert while on duty./li/ulh3Preferred Job Requirements/h3ulliA certificate in security training from an established institution./li/ulpZoo New England is an Equal Opportunity Employer by Choice/ppNO PHONE CALLS PLEASE/p/div
