Rn Clinical Nurse Coordinator General Surgical
LewisGale Medical Center
Salem, Oregon, US
About the Role
LewisGale Medical Center, a full-service tertiary hospital renowned for its vascular and heart care, surgical weight loss, and comprehensive rehabilitation services, is seeking an RN Clinical Nurse Coordinator for our General Surgical unit. In this role, you will provide clinical leadership at the bedside, ensuring safe, evidence-based nursing care for a diverse population of post-operative and general surgical patients. You will coordinate patient care activities across the shift, collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, advanced practice providers, and the interdisciplinary team to support optimal clinical outcomes, patient safety, and an exceptional patient experience.
The RN Clinical Nurse Coordinator functions as a clinical resource, preceptor, and role model for staff nurses, nursing assistants, and ancillary personnel. You will assist with patient assessments, develop and update care plans, administer medications and treatments, and monitor patients for changes in condition, escalating concerns and intervening promptly. You will support throughput by helping manage admissions, discharges, and transfers, prioritizing patient care needs, and facilitating effective communication during handoffs and interdisciplinary rounds.
In alignment with LewisGale Medical Center’s culture of compassionate care, teamwork, and professional development, you will champion best practices in infection prevention, pain management, falls reduction, and pressure injury prevention. You will help ensure adherence to hospital policies, clinical protocols, and regulatory standards, including documentation requirements within the electronic medical record. The RN Clinical Nurse Coordinator helps oversee daily workflow, participates in staffing and assignment decisions, and supports charge nurse functions as needed, while maintaining a manageable patient assignment.
Education and coaching are key components of this position. You will help onboard new nurses and support staff, provide real-time clinical coaching, and participate in ongoing competency validation. You may assist in identifying learning needs, reinforcing unit-based education, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement. Participation in performance improvement initiatives, data collection, and evidence-based practice projects within the General Surgical unit is expected.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and confident RN with strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to patient- and family-centered care. You should be comfortable in a fast-paced acute care environment, able to prioritize effectively, and skilled at de-escalating stressful situations for patients, families, and colleagues. Proficiency in general surgical nursing, including post-operative assessment, wound and drain management, pain and sedation monitoring, and early recognition of complications, is essential.
LewisGale Medical Center offers a supportive and team-oriented environment where nurses are encouraged to grow professionally. As an RN Clinical Nurse Coordinator, you will have opportunities to expand your leadership skills, participate in shared governance and unit councils, and engage in continuing education. Employees benefit from comprehensive benefits and resources designed to support their well-being and career advancement while contributing to high-quality, compassionate care for the community.
This position is a full-time, hospital-based role that requires flexibility in scheduling, including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays in accordance with unit needs. Candidates must hold current RN licensure and appropriate certifications and demonstrate recent acute care surgical or medical-surgical nursing experience.
