About the Role

St. David's Medical Center, part of St. David's HealthCare, is seeking a skilled Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with NICU experience to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department in central Austin. As a full-service hospital known for excellence in neurology, cardiac services, and robotic surgery, we are dedicated to compassionate, patient-centered care and a strong culture of teamwork and clinical excellence.

In this role, the Registered Respiratory Therapist RRT NICU will deliver comprehensive respiratory care to neonatal and adult patients, with a primary focus on high-acuity infants in our NICU environment. You will perform detailed respiratory assessments, implement and adjust physician-ordered treatment plans, and manage advanced respiratory support modalities, including mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, oxygen therapy, and airway clearance techniques. You will play a key role in high-risk deliveries and neonatal resuscitations, providing expert support for airway management and stabilization in collaboration with neonatologists, nurses, and the broader care team.

The RRT NICU will obtain and interpret arterial and capillary blood gases, monitor patient response to therapy, and make timely, evidence-based adjustments to ventilator settings and treatment plans. You will document all care delivered in the electronic medical record with accuracy and completeness, communicate clearly with physicians and nursing staff, and participate actively in interdisciplinary rounds and care conferences. In addition, you will help educate families about respiratory conditions, therapies, and equipment when appropriate, supporting them through complex and stressful situations with empathy and professionalism.

Aligned with St. David’s culture of excellence, you will uphold the highest standards of infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory compliance. You will respond rapidly to respiratory emergencies and Code events, providing critical airway and ventilatory support in the NICU and throughout the hospital as needed. You will also support quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice initiatives, and ongoing clinical education that enhance patient outcomes and advance respiratory care practice. Experienced therapists will have the opportunity to precept and mentor newer team members, contributing to a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.

St. David's Medical Center offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and strong support for continuous professional development.
