Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) you will perform the critical care and diagnostic procedures utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiopulmonary diseases on patients of all ages. As a member of the patient focused care team you will be responsible for performing basic respiratory equipment maintenance, quality control measures and other administrative or technical tasks.

  • You will be responsible for setting up and operating various types of respiratory care equipment
  • You will be perform a range of technical procedures related to cardiopulmonary hemodynamics
  • You will demonstrate competency in proper airway care
  • You will be able to assess patients appropriately, interpret results accurately, and suggest alternative respiratory treatment
  • You will exhibit competency in the performance of routine patient assessment and in the ability to correctly recognize and interpret respiratory dysfunction
  • You will function as a respiratory care protocol assessor by delivering therapy and reassessing patients in a timely manner and maintaining proper and accurate documentation
  • You will communicate regularly with physicians and nurses about patient care plans and updates

Job Qualifications

Experience

  • Acute Care Hospital experience preferred

Education

  • Graduate of an American Medical Association accredited Respiratory Therapy program

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist credential by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Current Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner license
  • Current certification as Basic Life Support (BLS) provider
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for NICU RRT Staff
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required for ICU RRT staff

St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas, located at St. David's North Austin Medical Center, is recognized by the State of Texas as a 60;Level IV Maternal Facility. This means it provides the highest level of care for pregnant and postpartum patients, especially those with serious or complex medical, surgical, or pregnancy-related conditions, including those at high risk for 60;maternal morbidity or mortality. The center includes a 60;95+ bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) 60;with 30+ private rooms, 10+ rooms for very small babies, and 10+ beds for babies needing neurological care. It also has 60;35+ labor, delivery, and recovery rooms, including Central Texas’ first 60;low-intervention birthing suites 60;with tubs. There are 60;95+ postpartum beds, 60;20+ antepartum beds, and 60;Cesarean section surgical suites. The facility offers 60;24/7 neonatology coverage, 60;OB/GYN hospitalists, 60;maternal-fetal medicine specialists, 60;lactation consultants, and a 60;midwifery program. It is part of the 60;National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network 60;and 60;TexasAIM, and it also provides a 60;high-risk pregnancy navigation and support program.

St. David's Surgical Hospital is part of 60;St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and is the first 60;Level 4 Epilepsy Center 60;in Central Texas for both adults and children. It has its own 60;24-hour emergency department, a 60;medical-surgical inpatient unit, and a 60;pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) 60;for patients ages 17 and under. The hospital is staffed with 60;pediatric emergency physicians, 60;pediatric hospitalists, 60;intensivists, and other specialists who are specially trained to care for children. It also includes 60;certified child-life specialists 60;who help kids feel more comfortable during their hospital stay.
