About the Role

Heart Hospital of Austin, a part of St. David's HealthCare, is a specialty hospital focused exclusively on advanced cardiac care. We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse for our Progressive Care unit to provide high-acuity, step-down level care to patients with complex cardiovascular conditions. As a Registered Nurse Progressive Care, you will care for patients recovering from cardiac procedures, heart failure exacerbations, arrhythmias, and other serious cardiac events, using state-of-the-art monitoring technology and evidence-based nursing practices. In this role, you will perform comprehensive assessments, interpret cardiac and hemodynamic data, and respond quickly to subtle changes in patient condition. You will administer and titrate cardiac medications, manage telemetry and invasive/noninvasive monitoring, and collaborate closely with cardiologists, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans. You will educate patients and families on disease processes, procedures, medications, and lifestyle modifications to support long-term cardiac health, ensuring that they feel informed, supported, and engaged in their care. As a Cardiac Nurse in our Progressive Care unit, you will participate in life-saving interventions, rapid response situations, and transitions of care, contributing directly to excellent patient outcomes. Typical responsibilities include managing a progressive care patient assignment, prioritizing and coordinating care, documenting accurately in the electronic medical record, communicating effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary team members, and adhering to hospital policies and clinical protocols. You will follow infection prevention and patient safety standards, support a healing environment, and serve as an advocate for patients and families during vulnerable moments. Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential. The ideal candidate has solid experience in telemetry, step-down, progressive care, or intensive care settings, with demonstrated competence in rhythm interpretation, cardiac drips, and the management of high-acuity patients. A current RN license and BLS and ACLS certifications are required, and progressive care or cardiac specialty certification is highly valued.
