Registered Nurse Float Pool

St. David's Medical Center Round Rock, Texas, US

About the Role

St. David's Medical Center, part of St. David's HealthCare, is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for our Float Pool to support our state-of-the-art neurological and medical-surgical units. Located in central Austin, our hospital specializes in neurology, cardiac services, and robotic surgery, offering nurses the opportunity to practice in a high-acuity, technologically advanced environment. As a Float Pool RN, you will provide direct, patient-centered nursing care across multiple units based on staffing needs, with a primary focus on our comprehensive Neurological unit. In this role, you will be responsible for performing thorough assessments, developing and implementing individualized plans of care, administering medications and treatments safely, and monitoring patient responses to interventions. You will collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care, support complex discharge planning, and ensure safe transitions of care. You will also provide education and emotional support to patients and families, helping them understand diagnoses, procedures, medications, and follow-up care. The Float Pool environment requires strong critical-thinking skills, clinical judgment, and adaptability, as you may be assigned to different units during your shifts, including neurology, medical-surgical, step-down, and potentially telemetry or cardiac areas depending on your experience. You will follow evidence-based nursing practice, adhere to infection prevention and patient safety protocols, and document care accurately and promptly in the electronic health record. You will participate in rapid response situations, recognize and respond to neurological and hemodynamic changes, and escalate concerns appropriately to ensure early intervention. St. David’s Medical Center is dedicated to compassionate care and upholds a culture of excellence and teamwork. As part of our nursing team, you will actively contribute to a positive work environment by communicating effectively, supporting colleagues across disciplines, mentoring newer staff when appropriate, and participating in shared governance, staff meetings, and quality improvement initiatives. You will be encouraged to pursue ongoing professional development through continuing education, specialty certifications, and skills training supported by the organization. This position offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement savings options, and paid time off. As an experienced RN in the Float Pool, you will benefit from exposure to a broad range of patient populations and diagnoses, strengthening your clinical expertise and opening pathways for career advancement within neurology, critical care, leadership, or education. If you are a flexible, compassionate, and detail-oriented nurse who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care, we invite you to join St. David’s Medical Center as a Registered Nurse Float Pool.
