Protective Security Officer
About the Role
In accordance with DHS protocols, the armed guard force is responsible for all aspects of security operations for the command, including the protection of personnel, property, facilities, and critical assets. Officers provide entry control point services to ensure that unauthorized individuals, vehicles, equipment, and vessels are effectively deterred and denied access or exit.
This role is well-suited for prior military and law enforcement professionals seeking a structured, mission-focused environment where their experience directly contributes to safeguarding critical operations. Officers play a key role in preventing and responding to threats such as theft, sabotage, disturbances, and other incidents that could disrupt normal facility operations.
Location: Superior, WI
Hourly Rate: $26.99/hr
Health and Welfare: $5.32/hr
Responsibilities:
- Provide armed security and access control services
- Protect government property, classified materials, and personnel from unauthorized access, theft, or damage
- Monitor and control entry and exit points within assigned areas
- Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and suspicious or unusual activity
- Identify and address potential safety and security concerns proactively
- Enforce all security and safety rules and report violations
- Maintain a thorough understanding of post orders and security procedures
- Complete accurate incident reports and required documentation
- Perform heavy work, including exerting significant physical force when necessary
- Stand for extended periods, including 12-hour shifts
- Work in both office and operational environments with frequent activity and interruptions
- Sit, stand, and walk for long durations as required by assignment
- Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, wind)
- Operate in high-noise and potentially hazardous environments, including proximity to machinery and firearms
- Navigate stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, and inclines
- Maintain full physical and psychological fitness standards required by contract
- Travel may be required
- Extended hours may include nights, weekends, and holidays
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident with honorable military service
- Minimum age of 21
- Possess a valid Social Security Card
- Minimum of two (2) years of armed security experience; OR
- Minimum of one (1) year of full-duty law enforcement experience with a recognized agency; OR
- Minimum of two (2) years of honorable service in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces
- Demonstrated proficiency with a handgun and ability to meet all firearms certification standards
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, including report writing
- Familiarity with fixed-site security operations and access control procedures
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to pass background investigation, drug screening, physical exam, and MRPT suitability requirements
- Strong professionalism, reliability, and situational awareness
