Job Summary: ThePrincipal AI Engineeris a senior technical leader responsible for drivingPointClickCare’sAI firstanddata firsttransformationacross products and platforms. This role defines and deliversproduction gradeAIsystems, including agentic anddata drivensolutions—that are secure, observable, scalable, and aligned with healthcare regulatory requirements. Beyondhands ontechnical leadership, the Principal AI Engineer acts as acoach and mentorto engineering teams, elevatingAIand data engineering maturity across the organization. This role partners closely withProduct, Engineering, Architecture, Advanced Technology, and SaaS Operationstoidentifyhigh valueopportunities forAI driveninnovation and to transition prototypes into reliable, measurable business outcomes. Key responsibilities: Lead the reference architecture for AI and agentic systemswithin key product domains, defining standards and reusable patterns for reasoning loops and orchestration, tool/function calling, memory and state management, data integration and retrieval, safety, governance and interoperability. Design and deliverproduction readyAI systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, observability, performance, and cost efficiency across the full lifecycle. Establishplatform levelAI and data components, including Model broker andmulti-modelrouting strategies, orchestration and workflow services, evaluation and experimentation frameworks, prompt, configuration, and versioning systemsand telemetry, monitoring, and cost governance tooling. Lead the design ofend-to-endAI data pipelines, including document ingestion, OCR, NER, and preprocessing, chunking, embeddings, vector stores, and hybrid searchand offline and online evaluation for quality, latency, safety, and cost. Responsibilities Continued: Partner with data and analytics teams to align AI solutions withmeasurable product and business outcomes. Partner with Product Managementtoidentify, shape, and validateAI drivenopportunities that improve clinical, operational, and business outcomes. Help product teams move fromproblem framing toAI enabledsolutions, balancing feasibility, value, risk, and regulatory constraints. Contribute to innovation efforts by evaluating emerging AI tools, models, and frameworks Prototypingnew approachesin collaboration with Advanced Technology Translating successful experiments into scalable platform capabilities Ensure all AI solutions areproduction grade, with strong practices for observability, logging, alerting, and incident response, performance testing and cost optimization, safe rollout, experimentation, and rollback strategies Embed responsible AI andsecurity by designprinciples, including RBAC, audit logging, and privacy controls, alignment with healthcare regulations and standards (e.g., HIPAA, NIST AI RMF,ONC alignedguidance) and close collaboration with Security, Privacy, Regulatory, and Platform teams Mentor and coach senior and intermediate engineers, raising overall capability inAI and data architecture, production AI engineering practices, evaluation, experimentation, and systems thinking Drive adoption ofshared AI and data best practices, enabling teams to reuseplatform components, contribute improvements back to shared frameworks, consistently evolvedomain specificAI capabilities Qualification and Skills: Proven experience leading and deliveringproduction AI systemsacross multiple engineering teams. Strong background inAI engineering with adata firstmindset, including experience with largescale data pipelines andanalytics drivenevaluation. Experience designing or contributing tooffline and online evaluation methodologiestied to product metrics and business outcomes Experience implementing security by design and responsible AI practices in regulated or enterprise SaaS environments Preferred skills: Experience deploying AI systems inhealthcare or other regulated industries(e.g.,HIPAA alignedenvironments). Familiarity withmodel serving infrastructure, model broker patterns, andmulti-modelrouting for performance and cost optimization. Experience partnering closely withProduct Managementtoidentifyand deliverAI enabledproduct capabilities.
