Principal Data Architect
About the Role
Data Architect The Data Architect will collaborate with R&D Microbiologists and Business Representatives across the organization to develop novel systems for medical device data analysis. Partner with application developers/architects and infrastructure architects to define scalable future state architecture based on business strategy. Primary Duties Architect enterprise data platforms supporting structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. Design scalable data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouse solutions to support analytics, machine learning, and operational workloads. Establish data governance frameworks, including data quality, lineage, security, and lifecycle management. Design, develop and optimize relational databases. Document deliverables compliant with established company design control and regulatory statutes. Maintain corporate data infrastructure in a cloud environment. Capture end‑user requirements and create reporting infrastructure for complex data queries. Provide support for current databases via ad‑hoc queries, DML, etc. in a regulated R&D environment. Collaborate with data engineering teams to drive integration strategies, and real‑time/streaming data architectures. Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Education, Training and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Biology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field. 10+ years in architect/principal role in relational database design and lifecycle management, including management of technical debt. Preferred Education, Training And Experience Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Biology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical or scientific field. 3+ years AWS experience (RDS, Aurora, S3, Storage Gateway). Participation in project planning, estimating and sequencing of work. 5+ years in architect/principal role in a database/data warehouse environment. Compliance exposure (e.g., HIPAA, SOX, ISO 13485, 21 CFR 820, 21 of 11) and regulated SDLC concepts. Collaboration with life sciences professionals generating experimental data. Experience with software development methodologies, especially Agile and Scrum, including implementation of incremental feature changes. Working Conditions Ability to remain in stationary position, either sitting or standing, for prolonged periods. Ability to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. Ability to position self to maintain equipment, including under tables and desks. Occasional travel required — 5%. International travel required — 5%. Typical office setting – hybrid work model: 2 days WFH and 3 days on site per week. The estimated salary range for this role is between $148,000 and $200,000. This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux’s bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate’s experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
