About the Role
RWJBarnabas Health, the largest integrated healthcare system in New Jersey, is seeking a Medical Director of Quality – Heart & Vascular to serve as a key clinical leader driving quality, safety, and performance excellence across our system. In this role, the Medical Director will lead systemwide initiatives focused on improving clinical outcomes, standardizing care pathways, and advancing patient experience across cardiology, cardiac surgery, and vascular services. Working in close partnership with the VP for Quality, Heart & Vascular, this leader will leverage data and registry insights to drive performance improvement, oversee clinical event reviews and regulatory compliance, and engage physicians and multidisciplinary teams in fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Position Overview
The Medical Director of Quality – Heart & Vascular is responsible for advancing clinical quality, safety, outcomes, and patient experience across RWJBarnabas Health. This leader will collaborate with system and hospital leadership, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to implement evidence-based strategies that improve care delivery and drive measurable results.
This role plays a critical part in aligning Heart & Vascular quality initiatives with system priorities, regulatory standards, and best practices—while fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute systemwide Heart & Vascular quality and safety strategies, focusing on measurable improvements in outcomes, efficiency, and care reliability
Utilize data analytics and registry performance (ACC, STS, NCDR, VQI) to identify opportunities, develop dashboards, and present actionable insights to leadership
Partner with clinical and operational leaders to standardize protocols, oversee clinical event reviews, and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards
Engage physicians, APPs, and multidisciplinary teams to promote a culture of high reliability, continuous improvement, and equitable patient care
Qualifications
MD or DO with board certification in a Heart & Vascular specialty (Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Electrophysiology, or related field)
Active or eligible for New Jersey medical licensure
Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice with demonstrated leadership in quality, safety, or performance improvement
Experience with Heart & Vascular registries (ACC/NCDR, STS, VQI) and data-driven improvement initiatives
Strong communication, facilitation, and change management skills
Proven ability to work effectively within a complex, matrixed health system
NJ Paid Transparency:
The anticipated salary range for this position if hired to work is $200,000 to $250,000 per year.
The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s educational background, skills, and professional experience
