Junior Data Governance Analyst

About the Role

We are seeking a Junior Data Governance Analyst to join our Analytics department. This position will be non-exempt (hourly; overtime eligible). Candidates must be located in or around the Nashville, TN or Brentwood, TN area, as the position will be in-office on Mondays and throughout the week as needed.

General Function

Provide data governance support by documenting and maintaining data lineage across enterprise systems. Through hands-on experience and development, progressively assume additional responsibilities related to metadata management, including business definitions, data relationships, and adherence to governance best practices and standards. Assist in the formation and execution of data governance reporting, documentation, and standards applicable to data quality, metadata management, reference and master data management, data warehousing, and business intelligence functions.

Ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding and development.

Learn and adhere to current data governance processes and best practices.

Document lineage and metadata based on existing standards and processes (within 6 months of hire).

Enter and update metadata provided by others (within 6 months of hire).

Learn the structure of the data catalog (assets, attributes, relationships) and capture lineage in the data catalog using existing processes and standards (within 6 months of hire).

Help to inventory tables, views, and key data assets in the legacy data warehouse (within 6 months of hire).

Compare legacy and new warehouse metadata (names, definitions, structures) and assist in identifying gaps, inconsistencies, or missing assets in the new data warehouse. Flag items that need review. (within 6-9 months of hire)

Document upstream sources and downstream consumers (reports, extracts, feeds) (within 6 months of hire).

Assist in defining, capturing, and maintaining data governance processes, documents, best practices, and standards (within 6-12 months of hire).

Define, capture, and maintain metadata in a data catalog, with guidance as needed (within 12 months of hire).

Identify missing or inconsistent metadata (within 12 months of hire).

Assist in identifying and correcting data quality issues within source systems by understanding source applications and processes (within 12 months of hire).

Ensure metadata accuracy, completeness, and consistency (within 24 months of hire).

May assist with the evaluation, selection, implementation, and support of new technologies associated with data governance (within 24 months of hire).

May collaborate with stakeholders to define, capture, and maintain metadata in a data catalog (within 24 -36 months of hire).

Expected to continually and efficiently build and develop a comprehensive understanding of the Property and Casualty insurance industry and the Medical Malpractice insurance niche.

May participate in cross-functional teams.

Meet or exceed supervisors expectations for productivity, quality, continuous improvement, and goal accomplishment.

Contribute to SVMICs success by identifying opportunities and making recommendations that may lead to improved processes.

Regular and predictable on-site attendance required.

Ability to work remotely as business needs dictate.

Skills and Abilities Required

Ability to develop and demonstrate a foundational understanding of the Property and Casualty insurance industry by successfully completing required courses and examinations (within 6 months of hire).

Basic awareness of data governance concepts and the importance of data quality within an organization.

Basic understanding of core data management functions as defined by DAMA (within 6-9 months of hire).

Demonstrated self-directed initiative to learn and develop.

Disciplined organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines across multiple projects as requested.

Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and recognize when and how to effectively collaborate with others.

Education Requirements

Associate or bachelor's degree in related field (preferred), or equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.

Relevant Experience Requirements

1-3 years of experience in or exposure to data management, data quality, or analytical support, such as data review, reconciliation, validation, or report interpretation and analysis, required.

Experience related to the development and maintenance of data governance solutions is preferred but not required.

An equivalent combination of education, applied experience, and demonstrated aptitude may be considered.

Experience in Property and Casualty insurance is a plus but not required.

Licenses and Professional Designations

Associate in Insurance (AINS), a plus.

Applied Data Governance Practitioner (ADGP), a plus.

Certified Data Management Professional Practitioner (CDMP), a plus.
