Interim Accounting Manager
About the Role
Duration: 9‑month contract
Start Date: ASAP (targeting next 1–2 weeks)
Location: Fully remote (Central or Eastern Time preferred)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

This interim Accounting Manager will provide critical coverage and stability for the accounting function while internal team members are dedicated to several major system implementations (including payroll, accounting, and operations platforms). The role is hands‑on, collaborative, and highly impactful, ensuring day‑to‑day accounting operations continue smoothly without disruption.
Key Responsibilities- Own and manage the purchase order system, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to internal controls
- Partner closely with the travel department, taking on accounting responsibilities to reduce operational bottlenecks
- Review existing accounting processes, identify inefficiencies, and recommend pragmatic improvements
- Support change management efforts related to new systems and evolving workflows
- Leverage existing process documentation (via Scribe) to ramp quickly and maintain continuity
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with accounting, operations, and systems teams to ensure smooth execution
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in a manager‑level or senior individual contributor capacity
- Demonstrated experience with process improvement and change management
- Strong collaboration and communication skills; comfortable working across departments and time zones
- Solid Excel proficiency (e.g., XLOOKUP and standard functions)
- Experience with fund accounting (public or private)
- Background in nonprofit or mission‑driven organizations
- Prior experience supporting or backfilling teams during system implementations

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA or CMA preferred
