Full Time Registered Nurse Emergency Department : Night Shift
UCHealth
Douglas County, Colorado, US
About the Role
UCHealth is seeking motivated and compassionate Registered Nurses for our RN Fellowship Emergency Department Nights within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. This fellowship is designed for new graduate nurses and early-career RNs who are eager to develop strong clinical skills while working in a fast-paced, high-acuity Emergency Department setting. As a nonprofit, Colorado-based health care system, UCHealth delivers patient-centered care across multiple hospitals and outpatient facilities, and this role plays a key part in supporting that mission.
In this night-shift fellowship position, you will provide direct nursing care to adult and pediatric patients presenting with a wide range of urgent and emergent conditions. Working under the guidance of experienced ED preceptors and clinical educators, you will learn to perform comprehensive and focused assessments, prioritize care, implement physician orders, administer medications, initiate IV therapy, and utilize emergency equipment such as cardiac monitors, defibrillators, and infusion pumps. You will participate in triage, stabilization, and ongoing management of patients with trauma, cardiac, respiratory, neurologic, and medical emergencies while adhering to evidence-based protocols and UCHealth’s standards of care.
The fellowship includes structured classroom education, simulation-based training, and progressive, hands-on clinical experience to help you confidently transition into emergency nursing practice. You will be supported by a multidisciplinary team including physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and social workers. Collaboration, clear communication, and a commitment to safety and quality outcomes are essential in this role, particularly during night hours when critical decision-making and teamwork are vital.
As an RN on the night shift, you will be responsible for timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record, ongoing reassessment of patient status, and coordination of care from arrival through discharge or admission. You will provide education and emotional support to patients and families, helping them understand diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up care. You will also participate in unit-based initiatives focused on continuous improvement, patient experience, and quality metrics, reflecting UCHealth’s culture of innovation, diversity, inclusion, and excellence in patient care.
UCHealth offers a supportive learning environment with ongoing training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities, including pathways toward specialty certification in emergency nursing. The organization provides competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement savings options, along with differential pay for night shifts where applicable. This role is ideal for nurses who thrive in a dynamic environment, are eager to build strong clinical judgment, and want to grow their careers within a leading health care system committed to high-quality, patient-centered care.
Candidates should have graduation from an accredited nursing program, with a BSN strongly preferred. An active Registered Nurse license in the state of Colorado or eligibility for compact licensure is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required at hire, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and trauma-related certifications such as TNCC are preferred or required within a defined timeframe after start. Previous acute care experience is welcomed but not mandatory; this fellowship is specifically structured to support nurses with limited experience who are highly motivated to build a career in emergency nursing. Night and weekend availability, flexibility, and the ability to function effectively in high-stress situations are essential for success in this role.
