Flex Radiology Technologist

Avera Health is seeking a flexible, patient-centered Flex Radiology Technologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within our regional health system. Based within our network of hospitals and clinics, this role supports diagnostic imaging services across multiple care settings, providing high‑quality radiologic exams on an as‑needed or variable schedule. The Flex Radiology Technologist will perform a wide range of general diagnostic radiographic procedures, operating digital and portable X‑ray equipment, C‑arms, and related imaging technology in emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and surgical environments. In alignment with Avera Health’s culture of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship, this technologist will ensure safe, accurate, and timely imaging that supports providers in diagnosing and treating patients across the Upper Midwest. Responsibilities include verifying provider orders, preparing and positioning patients, selecting proper technical factors, and following established imaging protocols while minimizing radiation exposure in accordance with ALARA principles. The technologist will maintain strict adherence to infection prevention guidelines, patient identification and safety checks, and departmental quality standards, carefully documenting exams within the electronic medical record and PACS. This position requires effective communication with radiologists, nurses, providers, and support staff, as well as the ability to educate and reassure patients and families with respect and dignity. The Flex Radiology Technologist will help maintain exam rooms and equipment, assist with contrast procedures when appropriate, support on‑call or weekend needs based on department demand, and participate in continuing education and competency assessments to support professional growth.
