About the Role

Custodial Services Position

This job announcement will be open for applications through 11:59 p.m. April 29, 2026. All applications must be received prior to the closing date/time in order to be considered. Starting hourly rate is $19.16 per hour. Prior confirmed State of Colorado state service in the custodial class series may entitle candidates to a higher hourly wage. This position is entitled to a shift differential when applicable, overtime if preapproved by the manager and is a covered position under the Quality Jobs & Services Act. This is an essential service position and required to work during inclement weather, campus events and emergencies.

Cleaning 75%

Washes entrance windows, chalkboards, trays and erasers. Empties pencil sharpeners. Cleans and disinfects water fountains, lab sinks, doors. Dust furniture, flat surfaces, blinds and vents.

Cleans walk-off mats. Spot-clean walls, vending machines and doors

Sweeps outside entryways and removes litter or debris as needed.

Empties and cleans indoor and outdoor waste containers. Dust mops, damp mops or vacuums floors in circulation, classrooms, offices, reception and public areas. Burnishes floors as needed.

Straightens furniture and desks in classrooms and ensures correct number of chairs or desks are in classroom when appropriate.

Cleans restrooms in classroom and administration buildings and shower rooms in athletic facilities. Cleans and disinfects toilets, urinals, wash bowls, showers, mirrors, partitions, doors, floors, walls and circulation vents. Restocks soap and paper products in washrooms and showers.

Operates basic custodial equipment to accomplish tasks. Conducts on-going inspection of all cleaning equipment.

Reports building damage, repairs needed or signs of insect and rodent infestation as appropriate, including submitting work requests for observed issues.

Ensures classrooms, labs, offices and entries are locked and secure when appropriate.

Shovels snow from entryways and distributes ice melt as required.

Other duties as assigned.

Deep Cleaning 15%

Project cleans / deep cleans and disinfects restrooms, bathrooms, shower and locker rooms. Project or deep clean entryways, circulation, reception areas, classrooms, and offices. Wash windows, clean furniture and fixtures. Stripping, waxing, and burnishing floors. Steam cleaning or extracting carpeting.

Transports supplies and waste to appropriate locations using college vehicles or equipment.

Requires knowledge and use of advanced cleaning equipment and methods.

Uses ladders, stools, extension poles, or other equipment to extend reach and ensure all surfaces are cleaned

Event Support 5%

Assists with special events on campus by assisting with set up and removal of event resources including chairs, tables, and tents. Services events by picking up trash and debris, emptying trash containers, sweeping floors, cleaning restrooms, cleaning bleachers, etc. after events.

Transports materials to appropriate locations using college vehicles or equipment.

Training & Professional Development 5%

Employees must review and comprehend relevant employee handbooks and policies along with completing required training, including workplace safety, compliance, emergency procedures, and job-specific skills. Active participation in meetings, collaboration with colleagues, and professional development aligned with institutional goals are expected.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Six (6) months of full time commercial, industrial or institutional custodial experience

  • Basic computer skills for timesheet entry, online training courses, work orders, emails and SDS sheets

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

A final job offer is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a criminal background check as a condition of employment. All background checks will be conducted in accordance with Fort Lewis College policy.

PLEASE NOTE: This position does not require a driver's license, however, if an employee opts to use a college owned or personal vehicle to perform job duties, this requires the employee to be a Fort Lewis College Authorized Driver including possessing a valid driver's license and maintaining a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Fort Lewis College Authorized Driver Policy.
