Charge Nurse

Novant Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Charge Nurse to provide clinical leadership and coordinate high-quality, patient-centered care within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. As a Charge Nurse, you will serve as a key clinical resource on your assigned unit, working at the bedside while overseeing daily operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care for every patient. You will play a crucial role in supporting Novant Health’s mission of improving health by fostering a culture of safety, diversity, and personalized care. In this role, you will use your clinical expertise to assess patient conditions, prioritize care needs, and collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans. You will be responsible for assigning and supervising nursing staff and support personnel, providing real-time guidance, coaching, and feedback to ensure that standards of care, infection control practices, and regulatory requirements are consistently met. The Charge Nurse will help manage unit workflow, coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges, and troubleshoot clinical and operational issues as they arise. The Charge Nurse will also support a positive patient and family experience by promoting clear communication, addressing concerns, and ensuring that care is delivered with respect, dignity, and cultural sensitivity. You will actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety efforts, and the adoption of innovative practices and technologies that enhance outcomes and efficiency. This includes accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record, monitoring key quality indicators, and participating in staff huddles and debriefings. As a clinical leader, you will mentor new nurses and team members, promote professional accountability, and encourage ongoing learning and development. You will help cultivate a collaborative, team-oriented environment in which staff feel supported and empowered to provide excellent care. The Charge Nurse will work closely with nurse managers and other leaders to identify opportunities for improvement, support policy and procedure implementation, and uphold Novant Health’s standards and core values. This position requires strong critical thinking skills, sound clinical judgment, effective time management, and the ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced, acute care setting.
