Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
Avera Health
Rapid City, South Dakota, US
About the Role
Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a dedicated Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. At Avera Health, you will be part of a mission-driven organization that emphasizes compassion, hospitality, stewardship, and collaborative care across hospitals, clinics, and care facilities throughout the Upper Midwest.
In this role, you will provide comprehensive anesthesia care to patients undergoing a wide variety of surgical, obstetric, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures. You will conduct thorough pre-anesthesia assessments, review medical histories, perform focused physical examinations, and educate patients and families on anesthesia options, risks, and postoperative expectations. Working in close collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, and allied health professionals, you will develop and implement individualized, evidence-based anesthesia plans that reflect Avera’s commitment to excellent clinical outcomes and patient-centered care.
As a CRNA at Avera Health, you will administer general, regional, neuraxial, and monitored anesthesia care, and provide procedural sedation as appropriate. You will manage airway and ventilation, monitor hemodynamics, titrate anesthetic agents and adjunct medications, and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition. Throughout each procedure, you will use advanced monitoring equipment and sound clinical judgment to ensure safe, effective anesthesia delivery. You will oversee the patient’s emergence from anesthesia, manage post-anesthesia pain, nausea, and other immediate postoperative needs, and provide detailed, accurate handoffs to post-anesthesia care units and other care teams.
This position requires strong skills in perioperative and periprocedural care, including the management of anesthesia-related emergencies, participation in code responses, and the ability to lead or collaborate effectively during high-acuity situations. You will document all aspects of anesthesia care in the electronic health record in accordance with regulatory, legal, and institutional standards. You will also actively participate in quality improvement efforts, case reviews, and safety initiatives aimed at continually improving patient outcomes and enhancing the patient experience.
Avera Health supports ongoing professional growth within a robust healthcare network. As part of this culture, you will be encouraged to engage in continuing education, maintain and advance your CRNA certification, and contribute to the development of colleagues and learners through mentoring, education, and role modeling. You will uphold infection prevention, safety protocols, and best practices in all anesthetizing locations, including operating rooms, procedural suites, and off-site procedural areas.
The ideal candidate is a compassionate, detail-oriented CRNA who thrives in a collaborative, team-based environment and is motivated by the opportunity to serve patients and communities with respect and dignity. In return, Avera Health offers a competitive full-time compensation package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement benefits, along with opportunities to grow professionally in a supportive, mission-focused organization.
