Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
About the Role
Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. As part of a mission-driven organization serving communities across the Upper Midwest, you will provide comprehensive anesthesia care in a collaborative environment that emphasizes compassion, hospitality, and stewardship. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering safe, high-quality anesthesia services for patients undergoing a wide range of surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures. You will perform complete pre-anesthesia assessments, review medical histories, evaluate diagnostic data, and develop individualized anesthesia plans tailored to each patient’s health status and procedural needs. Using evidence-based practice, you will select and administer anesthetic agents, manage fluids and adjunct medications, and adjust anesthetic techniques in response to patients’ physiologic responses. Working in close collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other members of the perioperative team, you will manage all phases of anesthesia care, including induction, maintenance, and emergence. You will provide expert airway management, including endotracheal intubation and use of advanced airway devices, and will monitor vital signs and physiologic parameters using advanced hemodynamic and respiratory monitoring equipment. Your responsibilities will also include providing regional anesthesia, such as spinal, epidural, and peripheral nerve blocks, as appropriate to the patient and procedure. You will play a key role in post-anesthesia management, ensuring safe recovery, effective pain control, and early recognition and management of anesthesia-related complications in PACU and other recovery settings. As a CRNA at Avera Health, you will be an essential resource in emergency situations, including trauma cases and code responses, providing rapid assessment, airway management, and anesthesia support when needed. Avera Health fosters a culture of respect, dignity, and teamwork, and you will be expected to collaborate closely with nurses, physicians, therapists, and ancillary staff to optimize patient outcomes. Clear and compassionate communication with patients and families is essential, as you will educate them about anesthesia options, risks, benefits, and post-operative expectations. Accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and adherence to regulatory, safety, and organizational standards are fundamental aspects of this position. This on-site role is ideal for a CRNA who values both clinical excellence and meaningful relationships with patients and colleagues. Avera Health encourages professional growth within its supportive network, offering opportunities to participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical committees, and educational activities. You may also have the opportunity to mentor students or new providers, contributing to the development of the next generation of anesthesia professionals. Avera Health offers a competitive full-time compensation package, which may include eligibility for performance-based bonuses, along with comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, and a 401(k) retirement plan. Joining Avera Health as a CRNA means becoming part of a dedicated team committed to improving patient outcomes and serving communities with integrity, compassion, and clinical expertise.
