Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
About the Role
IEP Therapy is seeking a dedicated Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department within the Education & Training industry, providing school-based occupational therapy services to children with diverse learning needs. As a key member of a collaborative special education team, you will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to deliver individualized and group interventions that support students’ participation, access, and success in the school environment. You will implement IEP goals, adapt activities and classroom materials, and help students develop fine motor, visual-motor, sensory processing, self-care, and school-related functional skills so they can more fully engage in their educational programs.
In this role, you will conduct structured observations, assist with informal assessments, and collect data on student performance to inform treatment planning and progress reporting. You will follow evidence-based treatment plans created by the supervising OT, document sessions thoroughly and in a timely manner, and communicate student progress and needs to teachers, school staff, and families. You will collaborate closely with special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, school psychologists, and administrators to integrate occupational therapy strategies into the classroom and daily routines, offering practical recommendations for accommodations, environmental modifications, and assistive tools that promote student independence. You will travel between assigned school sites as needed, organizing your schedule to provide services in individual, small group, and classroom-based formats while meeting all compliance and caseload expectations. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining therapy materials, ensuring safe and inclusive treatment environments, and adhering to district, state, and federal guidelines related to special education and related services. You will participate in IEP meetings as requested by the supervising Occupational Therapist, sharing observations and data to support goal development and service recommendations. IEP Therapy provides a supportive and collaborative culture in which each therapist is encouraged to grow professionally while making a direct impact on students’ lives. You will have access to clinical resources, mentoring, and opportunities for continuing education that help you stay current with best practices in pediatric and school-based occupational therapy. The ideal candidate is a compassionate and organized Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant who is comfortable working in school settings, values teamwork, communicates clearly with educators and families, and is committed to personalized, student-centered care.
