divh2Armed Security Officer/h2pUnder general direction, provide for a safe and secure school environment, foster an optimal learning environment and act as a deterrent to unsafe or poor behavior by patrolling the campus, monitoring student behavior, enforcing school and District policies, intervening in physical encounters, monitoring security cameras, monitoring visitors, and reporting unsafe or unhealthy conditions. Patrol and monitor assigned school campus to provide security and protection to students, personnel, equipment, and property; maintain campus security and protect District property against vandalism, illegal entry, fire, and theft; enforce laws and regulations and respond to emergency situations./ppQualifications:/ppMinimum Education/Certification:/pulli3-5 years in Law Enforcement or/lili3-5 years in armed security (Level III Security Certificate) or/lili3-5 years in active-duty military/liliTexas DPS-Issued valid License to Carry, required/liliBachelors degree, preferred/liliBilingual: Fluent in English and Spanish, preferred/li/ulpSpecial Knowledge/Skills:/pulliKnowledge of emergency operations planning./liliKnowledge of NIMS and FEMA./liliKnowledge of health and safety programs and applicable laws./liliWorking knowledge of security-related technology (security cameras, video exporting, access control systems, telecommunications, etc.)./liliStrong public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills./liliExceptional work ethic, self-initiative and attention to detail./liliExcellent judgment and the ability to make sound, reasonable decisions while under pressure./liliExceptional writing and verbal communication skills, including in the context of fact-gathering, investigation of incidents and drafting informational reports./liliPass a standard fitness exam annually./liliObtain a passing score (90% +) on a pistol qualification course bi-annually./liliPass a psychological evaluation upon hire and every two years./li/ulpMajor Responsibilities and Duties:/pulliPatrol and monitor the campus and surrounding areas to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff, and the security of the facility./liliDisplay ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school./liliPromote student responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model and dressing and grooming professionally. Wear District designated attire in a presentable manner during assigned work hours./liliAssist the staff, police, and emergency personnel in handling emergencies or disruptive situations./liliAssist visitors with directions and securing proper identification. Intercept unauthorized visitors and escort them to exits./liliNotify the building administration, police, and/or appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous or unusual situations./liliNotify immediately appropriate personnel of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, or controlled substances./liliParticipate in appropriate in-service training and workshop programs./liliFollow safety protocols and emergency procedures./liliMaintain campus security and protect district property against vandalism, illegal entry, and theft, check buildings and grounds for security, and unauthorized visitors./liliInitiate contact with individuals on school grounds to assure visitor authorization./liliInspect and monitor the security of doors, windows, and gates./liliEffectively communicate and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work./liliPerform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by their supervisor, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation./liliPerforms additional duties as assigned./li/ulpSupervisory Responsibilities: None/ppWorking Conditions:/ppMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:/ppTools/Equipment Used: District vehicle, firearm, security uniform, flashlight, two-way radio, digital camera, alarm system, other security equipment, fire extinguisher, standard office equipment including computer and peripherals?/ppPosture: Prolonged standing and sitting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping?/ppMotion: Frequent walking; occasional strenuous running, climbing, pushing/pulling, twisting, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching, keyboarding and use of computer mouse, driving?/ppLifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance, on a daily basis?/ppVisual: Visual acuity?/ppEnvironment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; moderate exposure to hot and cold temperature, humid conditions and inclement weather; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours and on call?/ppMental Demands: Maintain emotional control and physical restraint when under stress and in crisis conditions?/ppSafety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety./ppThe information contained in this job description is for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills that may be required.
